OUR STORIES

Dror Topf: September 18, 2005

For me, it all started with a misperception. The HR partner called me into his office and told me that Waleed, a Pakistani consultant, was going to join our practice.

"Are you telling me this because I'm Israeli, and he's Pakistani", I asked, slightly taken aback.

"Actually, it's because we're having a renovation and you both are going to have to share a desk in the library."  I was in America , and all of the assumptions that had shaped my expectations in this situation were irrelevant in this new environment.  Once liberated from the expectations of mutual distrust, I realized that this opportunity to work with Waleed could entirely change my attitude towards how well Muslims and Jews can get along, and how we can work together to pursue peace in the lands where we came from. Waleed Ziad: September 18, 2005

My reason for initiating this peace forum began with a new found friendship.  My closest friend at work, Dror, is Israeli. While we were getting to know one another, our talk mostly centered around work, but that quickly led into other topics, topics that normally wouldn’t be broached in such a politically sensitive city like Washington , DC .  But we did so nonetheless – we could because we trusted one another and because, on both ends, there was a strong element of curiosity.  We spent countless hours discussing politics and religion, and as one would expect, eyes were opened on both sides... Asif Alam (President, Association of Pakistani Professionals)
Moin Ansari (President, American Jewish Muslim Association): September 23, 2005

In Response to the Initiative of of Links between Muslim and Jewish Communities

New York: The Association of Pakistani Professionals (AOPP) has asked the Pakistani-American community "to continue on the path of dialogue process on the community level, started by the President of Pakistan by speaking at the [Council for] World Jewry."

He said one example of Presidents Musharraf's initiative paying dividends "right away" is the formation of Pakistan-Israel Peace Organization- where Pakistani and Jewish friends are getting together to support the peace process."

Syed Asif Alam said: "All roads to peace go through dialogue. It is imperative that a serious interaction and dialogue takes place between the Pakistani-Americans and the Jewish community, so that we can work towards a peaceful resolution of the issue". Alam further said, "there are few inter-faith organizations like American Jewish Muslim Association (AJMA) that are doing wonderful work of inter-faith harmony and, I strongly believe that it is time now that we should support them with our heart and soul."

Thank you for sharing about this wonderful initiative that is trying unite individual Muslims and Jews to further relations in Pakistan and Israel. To sign the petition took no time at all.

For years I have been struck by the parallels between the founding of Pakistan and Israel around the same time... [This] inititive may be part of a different process for which the time has come.
I like the part about [the] initiative being entirely non-political... The most important "level" to begin (and end) with [is] cultural. I would see the success of this wonderful initiative mainly built around music and dance festivals!
