Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri and his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom, Sept.1, 2005 September 1st, 2005 marked an historic event in the relations between Pakistan and Israel. Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom and his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Kasuri met in Istanbul, in the first-ever high level encounter between the two countries.
This gesture of friendship has been made at the official level, but it is also vital that a similar gesture be made on the people to people level, and that Israeli and Pakistani citizens reach out to one another in a spirit of mutual respect. PETITION The petition, our first project, will be presented to the policy makers and media of both Israel and Pakistan to demonstrate that at the grass roots level citizens of both countries strongly support efforts to build relations. The petition will also serve to unite individual Muslims and Jews, who, through this campaign, will work together in building a solid foundation for positive relations between the groups for the good of all. Sign the PetitionWe, the undersigned, believe in promoting dialogue and establishing relations between Pakistan and Israel, at the political, social, and economic levels. We invite Pakistanis, Israelis, and citizens of the world to support this landmark step towards stability, peace, and prosperity in the Middle East and South Asia. Diplomatic relations A strengthening of ties between Pakistan and Israel would be a crucial factor in bringing stability and security to the region. Both countries can assist each other in brokering peace. "Israel is very effective in the region and can play an important role in resolving Kashmir," Kasuri, the Pakistani foreign minister, was quoted as saying. Likewise, the Israeli foreign minister Silvan Shalom expressed that "meetings such as this are a source of great encouragement and hope to the Israeli people. We hope that finally it will lead to full diplomatic relations with Pakistan, as we would like with all Muslim and Arab countries."
Cultural and Social Links Among the most valuable assets of Pakistan and Israel are their rich and diverse cultural and historical traditions. The opening up of relations can engender a fruitful cultural and educational exchange. Pakistan can provide Israel with a bridge to the Near East, while Israel can provide Pakistan with a bridge to the West. Economic Ties Israel has the most advanced economy in the Middle East with a large and flourishing high-tech industry, while Pakistan has rapidly expanding IT, industrial, commercial and service sectors and the fastest growing stock market in the world. The potentials for economic cooperation and partnerships are vast.
Peace, reconciliation, and activism to benefit all humanity are hallmarks of the two great religions, Judaism and Islam. This forum and petition supports the building of bridges and promotion of dialogue between Pakistan and Israel and EXPRESSES NO PARTIALITY FOR ANY POLITICAL POSITION. We invite those interested in taking a more active role in this campaign (especially public relations specialists, web designers, etc.) to contact us at pakistanisraelpeace@yahoo.com.
